water beads
Milo played with water beads for the first time last week. I had never used water beads before and did not know what to expect. So let me fill you in. This is what you will be looking at after you give small, slippery balls to a toddler:
And did I mention that they bounce? Yeah. I will probably find dried up water beads in every corner of the kitchen for another month.
The giant mess aside, Milo had a lot of fun. He transferred them between different containers using a small scoop, a large spoon, and a cup. Next time we play I will introduce more colors and let him try color sorting.
One very important thing to realize is that these are the perfect way to choke a small child. So if your child is still in the "everything goes into the mouth" stage, DO NOT try this activity. Also, please do not try this with your older child if you have a mobile infant crawling around. I was not joking about these things going everywhere.

Pintober wrap up
Pintober has been over for a few weeks and I believe I have finally recovered from the crafting, cooking, filming, and editing that helped make October a very busy month.
Second row: crockpot eggplant bolognese, lego pattern matching, room deodorizer, Mary's Gone copycat crackers, velcro shapes activity
Third row: two minute paleo pumpkin pie, toddler cowl, socca recipe, pumpkin pie play dough, avocado hand scrub
Fourth row: banana quinoa breakfast bake, sunflower seed butter, homemade deodorant, waxing leaves, allergy friendly pumpkin muffins
Last row: gelatin sensory activity, cotton ball painting, sunbutter cookies, DIY striped bakers twine

Pintober
October is nearly here which means I am in full swing preparing for Pintober.
Pintober? Yep, Pintober. For the entire month of October I will be uploading videos to my YouTube channel trying out different pins from Pinterest. I am not committing to every single day because I will be taking Saturdays and Sundays off to regroup.
This next month will probably prove to be the most productive I have ever been with my Pinterest account and I'm pretty excited about it!

apple orchard
Jim and I both grew up in small towns. I often think about how different Milo's childhood will be from ours not only because 30 years have passed and times change but because he is a city kid. He will experience more diversity, restaurants, museums, parks, crowds and noise than Jim and I ever did as children. This is the life we have chosen for him and we are all happy.
However, it is also very important to us that he knows where food comes from, that not all cows are black and white, and that there is so much that exists beyond the city limits.
We took a family trip out to All Seasons Apple Orchard this moring. We picked a peck of Honeycrisp apples, took a wagon ride, played in a pumpkin patch, met a goat, and thoroughly enjoyed the fresh air.

Niagara Falls
We have been back from vacation for a week now and life has finally fallen back into its normal rhythm. Now that we are back, I wanted to share some photos from Niagara Falls.
This is my current favorite photo of the three of us. We could be in front of a brick wall and I would love it, but the added scenery behind us is nice too.
Milo enjoyed himself and was very impressed by the "big water." He was also impressed by caterpillars, rocks, and french fries. But I like to think that "big water" was the highlight of the day.

feeling sick
A sickness has completely taken over my house. It started with one sore throat and quickly escalated to all three of us being pretty miserable and grumpy. A week later and we are finally starting to feel better.
Just in time for... our vacation! We decided last minute to head to upstate New York. So I'm certain I will have many beautiful photos to share with you when we get back next week.
In the meantime, here are a few recent favorites of Milo from my Instagram:
